KIDS’ STUFF AMERICAN DANCE ACADEMY Since 1978, the American Dance Academy has proudly offered exceptional dance training to children throughout the tri-county area. A complete curriculum of courses ranging from tiny tots through pre-professional dance and adult classes are available. The Academy focuses on the traditional performing arts with specialized faculty to offer individualized attention and dedication to the ideal of quality in arts ?education. ADA students have gone on to win dance awards, college scholarships, and to dance professionally with the American Ballet Theatre and the Joffrey Ballet. Whether your child is a recreational dancer or a serious dancer, there is a program for them at the American Dance Academy! JEEPERS Jeepers, creepers, your kids’ peepers will pop out when they spy all the diversions at these family-fun centers located in the Great Lakes Crossing, Macomb and Northland malls. Take them on rides, dole out tokens for the arcade-style games or simply let the little buggers go safely crazy on the “Soft Play” areas. Designed for children ages 2–12. JUNGLE JAVA Have you ever wished you could kick back in a coffee shop and know your kids were safe at play in a clean and fun environment? Jungle Java is the answer. For a modest entry fee, your little monkeys will be amused for hours in a jungle clubhouse setting, engaged in physical play, while you chat over a steaming latté with a friend. A special area for the little ones ensures that even the under-three set is safely occupied. Its the perfect answer for cabin fever. LANDSLIDE SKATE PARK Nearly 22,000 square feet of ramps, half pipes and a foam pit await skateboarders and inline skaters. Don’t know what any of that means? Sign up for one of Landslide’s clinics and you’ll be aciddropping, caspering and feeblegrinding in no time. It’s all indoors, so it’s open year-round. MARVIN’S MARVELOUS MECHANICAL MUSEUM One of the coolest places around, Marvin shares his eclectic collection of vintage toys, rides, games and ephemera as well as all the popular new video games that kids love. MORGAN’S ARCADIA Laser tag anyone? A neon-lit, state-of-the-art system is just one of the attractions at Morgans. Theres also a large video arcade and a restaurant where parents can chill while their kids amass coupons for prizes (that would probably cost a lot less if you just went out and purchased them). NELSON, THE ANIMAL GUY Treat your child to the wildest birthday party in town. Nelson will take the children on an incredible safari complete with exotic animals the kids can really touch! He is both amusing and educational as he talks about the critters, which may include anything from a kangaroo, sugar glider or chinchilla to an alligator or the biggest snake youll ever see outside a Tarzan movie. This is truly the coolest party ever. The facility is decked out like a jungle campsite, so the kids can play before the show begins, or have a prehistoric dig to find fossils and artifacts. Theres a party area, so you can bring your own food and cake to complete the experience. Nelson is also available to come to your school, Scout troop or local library. OAKLAND GYMNASTICS TRAINING CENTER This is one of many area gymnastics centers; we think it is one of the best. The Millers have been involved in competitive gymnastics for 30 years, and will help to bring out the best in your budding athlete. Gymnastics is a great way to introduce physical fitness into a childs life, with an accent on strength, flexibility and fun. Classes available from Tumble Bugs for 18 months to 2 years all the way to Junior Olympic Competition Training. Also a great place for a birthday party. PUTTING EDGE The glow-in-the-dark feature puts a whole new light on miniature golf. Be sure to wear light clothing, which comes alive under all the black lights. Open till midnight on Friday and Saturday for junior insomniacs. SPORT N FUN Go-karts, batting cages, miniature golf and an indoor arcade attract kids of all ages. This outdoor part (which is most of the place) is open till midnight daily from late March till winter comes calling. For an antidote to winter blahs, the arcade stays open all year. WALLED LAKE SCENIC RAILWAY Kids all love a train, and at Walled Lake Scenic Railway you can treat the children in your life to a wonderful memory-making experience. All kinds of special event rides are offered, from the popular holiday themed Santa or Cottontail Express to specials like the Dora the Explorer or Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express.
