AL FRESCO ASSAGGI Garden dining out back in the flower and herb garden. BUZZ With a view of the waterfront and the RenCen this deck is one of the latest contenders for “best of.” CENTURY GRILLE Very nice patio in the thick of things Downtown. FISHBONES One of the finest patios and the most bustling crowd you will find anywhere on the Nautical Mile. On chilly nights they will turn on the heaters. HALF PAST THREE Like your own secret garden, except with fun people. HOCKEYTOWN The rooftop is what makes it popular even when it isn’t hockey season. IL POSTO Can’t afford the Tuscany trip? Try the fabulous patio (and congratulate them for being named HOUR Detroit’s 2006 restaurant of the year). LOS GALANES Patio perfect for margaritas and Mexican food. Olé! LOVING SPOONFUL Elevated deck with Shawn (soon to be PBS star) Loving’s signature fare (favorite of several Pistons) and a spectacular view overlooking the scenic 9th hole at Copper Creek. MEMPHIS SMOKE Royal Oak’s original rooftop—there are weird mushroom-shaped things (or it might have been DTs). MOTOR CITY BREWING WORKS Drink your Ghettoblaster on the top rooftop in the entire Cass Corridor…oops, we mean Midtown. O’MARA’S Wrap-around patio kind of has a Disney/Epcot vibe, and the food is always on the money. OXFORD INN If they keep expanding pretty soon they should hit 696. Don’t miss the legendary ribs and raw bar. POST Rain, shine, moonlight, snowstorm—this used to be a greenhouse before they found a better use. PRIYA The only Indian restaurant with a patio, a lovely one indeed. Go for the high-octane mango drinks or sit back with a Lion Stout. RATTLESNAKE CLUB As good a time as you can have on the river without a yacht or speedboat. The drinks are divine and the food is just a little bit better than as good as it gets. THE RHINO AT HARMONIE PARK Sunken streetside patio is the place to mingle, munch and chill to great sounds. Like the best block party you’ve ever been to. SIGNATURE BAR & GRILLE Wonderful river view makes this a summer must. Not a deck but a dock; you can carry-out to the marina or enjoy the same view with air conditioning. SLOW’S Hellaciously popular, if they didn’t open the patio we probably would have gotten carry-out and eaten on the corner anyway. SMALL PLATES Chances are, someone you know will come walking by when you’re sitting in the herb-ringed sidewalk cafe. TAEZ Off Orchard Lake, which is technically a street, but it feels like you are on a lake, even if it is asphalt. VIA NOVE The place oozes ambience and the patio follows suit. THE WHITNEY Summer weekends the hallowed grounds surrounding this mansion transform with live music, art and a big buffet featuring picnic-type fare. XODOS Amazing spot above the Golden Fleece is one of the best-kept secret decks in the entire city. Oops. © 2006 Guide to Detroit, LLC • Last modified: Thu, Aug 17, 2006 |
